NewburyOpen.net is a network which provides high-speed wireless Internet services to Newbury Street's residents, workers, and travelers. It was created by Tech Superpowers, Inc., Boston's source for Macintosh hardware, support, and consulting.

But NewburyOpen.net is more than just a free wireless network. We're a testbed for new business models, technologies, and applications - all revolving around the idea of the ubiquitous Internet.

From being the first commercially-sponsored free Hotzone in the country to creating WiFi events like "Unwiring" the Boston Marathon, we're constantly looking at how wireless can revolutionize how people view and use the Net in their daily lives.

We believe that high-speed Internet must become like a public utility: cheap, simple to access, easy to find, and available to everyone, no matter their location or social status. That makes the greatest benefit of the Net - the distribution of information - easy for all.

Our principles are:
  • Make high-speed wireless Internet available in Boston for as many people as possible at low or no-cost.
  • Create innovative networks, business models, and foster the development of applications that show the power of the ubiquitous Net.
  • Distribute our technical specifications and business model for free to everyone so that they can duplicate our efforts.
  • Push the ISPs and Telecoms to see that WiFi, by its nature, cannot be controlled like cellular or fixed broadband.

See how we're putting these principles to work by viewing our events, free whitepapers, press we've garnered, and the locations on our network.
