Think Globally, Act Locally, they say.
It's one thing to ponder the proliferation of corporate-sponsored free WiFi networks and write papers theorizing about it.
It's another thing to create more networks like NewburyOpen.net in our own backyard. Action requires volunteers, sponsorship, technical know-how, and a lot of time getting to know communities around the region. We'll be the first to say it - creating a Hotzone is not a simple task.
But our experiences in creating Hotzone is very valuable to anyone pondering creating a similar network, and we'd done it a bunch of times and put up our experiences here.
These projects are our past and current efforts to create other free WiFi networks like ours in other parts of the region. Some projects were more successful than others and we look forward to the completion of others. But each one can be used to learn how to best start your own Hotzone.
